The bagpipes and drums are synonymous with Scotland and the Scotland County Highland Games will feature competitors from throughout the Eastern USA and beyond competing for prizes and awards. Solo competitions in both piping and drumming will commence at 9 a.m. and band competition will begin around 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
All competitions are officially sanctioned by the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association.
The Scotland County Highland Games will serve as the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association Southern Branch Championship for Grade IV bands. Bands from both Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and Virginia are expected. The massed pipe bands will perform twice during the day – at opening ceremonies at noon and at closing ceremonies at approximately 4:45 p.m.
The winner of the Amateur Grade I Solo Piping competition will receive a spot to compete at “An Cros Greine” (The Sun Belt) invitational amateur competition to be held in Orlando, Florida in November.
As a special feature this year, one of our judges is Mr. Callum Beaumont, of Dollar, Scotland. Callum is one of the world’s best pipers and in 2022 was winner of the Glenfiddich Piobaireachd Championship as well as the Dunvegan Medal and Clasp. He was also sponsored by the Scotland County Highland Games at last year’s An Cros Greine (The Sun Belt) Invitational Professional Contest which he also won! You can hear Callum in concert at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday evening following the Games. The location will be announced shortly.
